It’s the most wonderful time of the year again, filled with friends, family and festivities. Unfortunately, it’s also the time of year that we’re most prone to filling ourselves out around the waist. That’s why it’s a smart idea to practice some responsible eating tactics to keep your figure looking as fabulous going into the season as coming out of it.
This time of year is ripe for temptations but rather than deprive yourself and feel like you’re sidelining all the good stuff, try these eating habits to stay slim and trim!
1. Never party hungry
Before going to a holiday event, eat a nutritious small-portioned meal. This will keep you feeling satiated enough not to gobble down everything you see yet allow you to take small tastes of a few notable things that won’t put you over your calorie limit for the day.
2. Fill up with water
Hydration always helps keep you eating responsibly. All too often, we mistake the signs of thirst for the signs of hunger. If you eat nutritiously and drink enough water, you won’t be inclined to nibble on everything in sight.
3. Dress in fitted attire
Leave the elastic waistbands and flowing dresses in your closet. For this holiday season, choose clothing that has a fitted or structured waistband. This will automatically put you on notice so you won’t be tempted to eat until you’re uncomfortable.
4. Engage in conversation over meals
Another way to avoid going overboard with those tasty temptations of the holidays is to revel in the company of others. Eat mindfully and carry on conversations with friends, family, and coworkers. As you do, you’ll be eating more slowly which allows your brain to get the message that your stomach is full before you eat more than you should. You’ll save tons of calories this way!
5. Plan your indulgences
If your sister makes the best chocolate pie ever on the holidays, there’s no need to miss out. Instead, plan for it while making all the other right choices. Start with salad and load up on vegetables. Then allow for one small piece in moderation. You’ll be less likely to binge on other treats when you let yourself enjoy things appropriately.
6. Apply bright lipstick after eating
We always want to look our best at holiday gatherings. Often, that means bright lipstick hues to bring out our festive side. Brighter colors are known to boost the mood, plus when you reapply it after eating, you’ll be less likely to mess it up with a second helping.
7. Keep up with your fitness
Your calendar might be a little fuller of more cheery gatherings this time of year, but don’t forget to hit your workouts with equal zest. By continuing on your healthy track, you’ll keep your metabolism churning away to stay fit and healthy.
